Dean of FAH Holds FGD with Prof. Sunawari Long, Discusses the Direction of Faculty Development and Strengthening Academic Performance
FAH Building, FAH News Online — Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme Faculty Development and Strengthening Academic Transformation together with international Islamic higher education expert, Prof. Sunawari Long from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This agenda took place 12/04/2025 in the Dean's Room, and was attended by the Dean of FAH, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum., and Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation, Prof. Usep Abdul Matin, MA, MA, Ph.D., accompanied by Dr. Nurul Aini, M.Pd, as well as faculty education staff.
This FGD was held as a learning space, exchange of experiences, and strategic brainstorming to strengthen the direction of faculty development, support improvements in academic performance, and encourage FAH's contribution in supporting the achievements of the QS World University Rankings UIN Jakarta. Apart from that, this activity was also a form of welcoming Prof. Sunawari Long became Adjunct Professor at FAH.
In his presentation, Prof. Sunawari Long explained the various strategies that SMEs have implemented to improve the quality of human resources, the productivity of scientific publications, and the acceleration of university rankings at the international level. He emphasized the importance of a strong research culture, a performance evaluation system based on measurable achievements, and institutional consistency in providing adequate support for lecturers and researchers.
Prof. Sunawari said that in UKM, each lecturer is required to produce a minimum of three Scopus indexed articles every year, followed by publication targets in the form of books, international journals, proceedings and intellectual property rights (IPR). In addition, lecturers' annual performance achievement must be above 85% in fulfilling the tridharma of higher education.
In the follow-up session, Prof. Sunawari provides in-depth insight into relevant scientific writing standards for international publications. He explained the importance of comprehensive literature review, strong problem statements, formulation of measurable objective research, thoroughness in preparing methodologies, and designing a solid framework of research. This presentation is an important reference for FAH in improving the quality of research for lecturers and students.
Dean of FAH, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, expressed his appreciation for the presentation and experience shared by Prof. Sunawari. According to him, these ideas are very relevant and can be an inspiration in strengthening FAH's development roadmap towards an international class faculty.
“This FGD is not just an exchange of information, but a momentum to strengthen FAH's academic governance so that it is more adaptive to global demands,” he said.
The discussion was warm and interactive. On this occasion, the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation, Prof. Usep Abdul Matin emphasized a number of strategic questions regarding steps to achieve the QS Rankings, both at the Asian and World levels.
Through this FGD, FAH UIN Jakarta emphasizes its commitment to developing strategic steps to improve the quality of scientific publications, strengthen human resources, and expand international collaboration networks. This effort will be carried out consistently and sustainably as part of the commitment to support the university's vision towards a World Class University. (SN)
