English Literature Department UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta conducted a workshop on Scientific Publication: Creating and Publishing Research on Wednesday, 13th April 2022, via Zoom Meeting from 02.00 pm until 05.30 pm. Although this event is intended to increase the knowledge and new skills of the lecturers, this workshop is still attended by a large number of students from English literature. This workshop is essential and very useful for both lecturers and students. This workshop offers new insights into creating and publishing our writings on the official platform. To support complete insight in this workshop, The Department invited two very experienced speakers in their fields, namely Dr. Anna Riana Suryanti Tambunan, M.Hum from Medan State University, and UIN Jakarta itself Ida Rosida, M.Hum. Tuty Handayani, MA, English lecturer at UIN Jakarta, moderated this workshop. It was officially opened by the head of the English Literature Department, Hasnul Insani Djohar, Ph.D. In her opening speech, she reminded us that writing, reading a lot, and being practical in setting time management strategies are crucial things. It is not only crucial for lecturers but also for students. This strategy is needed to support our achievements in publishing our Research papers and even articles. By setting a strategy like the following, we will be able to achieve the predetermined target.

The workshop’s first session was delivered by Dr. Anna Riana Suryanti Tambunan, M. Hum from Medan State University. The speaker presented some essential points related to Scientific Publication: Creating and Publishing research. She begins with the quote that inspired her to write more prominent and more. The speaker explained the material in divided points, starting from why we must publish, the steps of picking where to publish, several factors to do informed research that we must pay attention to; also, she presented the references web that we can publish our research on it. She gave the participants the tips and references to publish by practical or some kind of tutorial on the presentation. She emphasized several points in creating articles or research that we are currently making. We need to be very concerned about the topic and its relationship with the audience, providing clear information that we will convey so that it is easier for us to decide where to publish the research or article to the writing of the title using the Analyze – Duplicate – Modificate method. In addition to providing one of the tips that are writing a research article using a book review type will be processed faster, The Speaker also emphasized that an article, Research, or journal that we write will be rejected if we ignore the points he has conveyed. It didn’t take long to decide; to write it down and pay attention to the ‘vitamins’ he had leaked based on experience; she ended her session.

The second speaker was Ida Rosida, M.Hum from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. The speaker was presenting about Designing and publishing Research (National and International publications). She divided it into four points; introduction, method, result and discussion, and conclusion. The speaker explained that when we make an introduction section, we must clarify the problem and its differences. She emphasized that we should not repeat what has been discussed in previous research. When explaining the method section, the speaker highlighted that we must make a short description of how the data are analyzed, highlights from the result and discussion section, we must be able to describe the result of the research and relate it to the literature review. She also Explained the self-check-in review based on her experience with the research topic and subject matter appropriate for the focus and scope until the paper uses the same style (APA, Chicago MLA) consistently.

Furthermore, for more tips, we can ask our friends to check our writing and learn by doing and practicing to make our journal articles better. Agree with the first speaker; we must maintain the ‘vitamins’ in our article by reading the top book. To close and motivate all the participants, the rejection of our journal article is a precious experience. Our writing can continue to move forward until it is published.
